The victim was stabbed multiple times during the attack, and despite his efforts to push Greenaway out of the lift, he was further assaulted as Pinto Alves slashed at him with a knife, and Thomas fired a gun into the lift, striking the victim in the leg. The entire incident was captured on CCTV.

After the attack, the three attackers fled the scene on bicycles. Armed officers from the British Transport Police arrived within minutes, followed closely by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service. The victim sustained life-threatening injuries, including severe lacerations and a gunshot wound to his leg, and required emergency treatment both at the scene and on the way to the hospital. Miraculously, the woman in the lift was not physically harmed.

The investigation that followed was extensive. Significant evidence was gathered from the scene, including a knife, a phone charger and cable, blood samples, a bullet, and a bullet casing. Law enforcement agencies utilized CCTV footage, mobile phone data, and vehicle tracking to trace the movements of the attackers across London, Dunstable, and Folkestone.

On March 3, a vehicle suspected of carrying Greenaway and Thomas was tracked down by Metropolitan Police officers in London. The vehicle was stopped, and inside were five individuals, including Greenaway, Thomas, and Pinto Alves. A live firearm was discovered beneath the vehicle, which was later confirmed to be the weapon used in the attack. Edokpolo was subsequently arrested on March 7.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that after the attack, the group had celebrated by filming themselves dancing and rapping while brandishing weapons, including a samurai-style sword. This video was discovered on one of the attackers’ phones and further demonstrated their lack of remorse and the premeditated nature of the violence.

Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Paul Attwell, who led the case, described the attack as “shocking” and noted that it was fortunate not to have resulted in fatalities, not only for the intended victim but also for the innocent bystander in the lift. He praised the efforts of the British Transport Police in conducting a highly complex investigation that ultimately brought the perpetrators to justice.

The judge ordered that each of the men serve two-thirds of their sentences in custody, with the remainder to be served on license. This case highlights the severe consequences of gang violence and the determination of law enforcement to protect the public and bring dangerous individuals to justice.
