Predatory Handsworth Wood abuser begins a 16-year sentence after a complex police probe exposed the systematic grooming and exploitation of three young girls.
A man has been jailed for 16 years after being convicted of a series of sexual and abduction offences involving three teenage girls. Kassam Hussain, of Antrobus Road, Handsworth Wood, was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday following a complex investigation by the West Midlands Police Central Complex Child Public Protection Unit. The sentencing follows a two-week trial in December last year, where a jury returned unanimous guilty verdicts on nine separate counts including rape, sexual assault, and abduction.
The court heard that the 30-year-old’s offending began in September 2024, when he raped a teenage girl and groomed and sexually assaulted a second teenager. The prosecution detailed how Hussain’s criminal activity continued into the following year, culminating in the abduction of two teenagers in May 2025. One of these victims was the same girl he had previously groomed and assaulted eight months earlier.
During the trial, the jury was presented with evidence detailing how Hussain targeted the victims by exploiting their personal circumstances. Legal proceedings established that the defendant had engaged in a pattern of predatory behaviour, specifically identifying and preying upon the teenagers when they were in positions of vulnerability.
Detective Constable Sarah Toye, of the Central Complex Child Public Protection Unit, stated that the investigation was a complex undertaking into the abuse and grooming of young girls. She commended the bravery of the complainants in providing the testimony necessary to secure the convictions, noting that Hussain had taken advantage of his victims' specific situations.
The court was informed that the three girls involved have been safeguarded and continue to receive specialist support following the conclusion of the criminal proceedings. DC Toye issued a further statement encouraging any individuals who may have experienced similar abuse, whether historical or recent, to contact the authorities, emphasizing that the police are committed to providing a safe environment for victims to disclose such offences.
Hussain’s 16-year custodial term marks the final disposal of the case following the unanimous verdict reached by the jury at the conclusion of the evidence late last year. The defendant will be subject to standard post-release supervision and notification requirements mandated for those convicted of serious sexual offences under the Sexual Offences Act.
